Virginia and Lawrence Coss
Lawrence M. Coss was the founder of Green Tree Financial Corporation.
In 1995, Lawrence and his wife, Virginia, established the Coss Family Foundation, with the specific desire to pursue philanthropy towards education. To accomplish this goal, the foundation provides scholarship grants for post secondary education in selected communities in Minnesota and South Dakota. These grants are awarded to graduating seniors in Dakota and Ramsey Counties in Minnesota, and Hand, Hyde, Buffalo, Meade and Pennington Counties in South Dakota.
Lawrence and Virginia established a second, non-traditional scholarship in 2009 geared toward adults who did not attend or complete college after high school, desiring to continue their education or make a mid-career change.
In 2010, the Coss Family Foundation awarded $301,250 in new and renewal awards, with 37 new recipients.
Lawrence and Virginia Coss presently are involved in ranching, real estate development and various businesses in South Dakota and Wisconsin.
